First graders are beginning the year by practicing patterns so that we can draw some Awesome Fish soon!
We looked at the art of Henri Matisse and created our own Fishbowl Still Life Oil Pastel drawings. Look at all the interesting versions of this famous painting
As we were working on this project a few students finished early. They were enjoying cutting and creating so much that they started looking at the scraps in a new way. Soon we had more monsters made out of scrap paper instead of starting with a new piece of paper. I love it when that happens!
We read a cute book called "Hungry Monsters" then created our own. Instead of drawing we used critical thinking skills to figure out how to cut shapes and create what we imagined. We also learned how to cut out symmetrical objects. They are too cute!
Learning to make pinch pots is fun! We also learned about the process clay goes through to make it hard. Ask your child where clay comes from.
