Kindergarten went on a line scavenger hunt today and we practiced drawing all kinds of lines. We looked at Monet's Seascape for lines and shapes. That took us to drawing shapes and looking at the lines we use to write our names. Next up Hungry Caterpillars!
The year is flying by and we have been making all kinds of art! Part of our time in Kindergarten is spent exploring on our own - called Free Time Art. I have centers set up for students to try new materials, play art games, draw and sculpt. (We've been going through a lot of tape lately.) I also use these centers when I need to teach small groups.
The first weeks of school we learn all about lines, shapes and colors. The practice of drawing lines helps students to understand movement, action and direction. And it helps with handwriting - by learning to look at the small details of a letter. We had a snow day last week. No snow just the threat of ice. "But that's how we do" here in Georgia :) Here are some SUNNY, snowy shape houses we made in Kindergarten.

Kindergarten Gallery...
Kindergarteners are so much fun to teach! When they come in the room all their hands go up and they catch me up on all the lost teeth, vacations, illnesses and new toys that have happened since I last saw them.
Love it!
