A quick 2 day project about color and line. We made as many observations about the rainbow as we could and this is what students came up with...
The rainbow has a name ROY G. BV. The letter's in his name correspond with the order of the colors on the rainbow. The rainbow is divided in the middle by warm and cool colors. The rainbow has a primary and secondary color pattern. We celebrated International Dot Day on September 15. Ms. Martin, our Media Specialist played the book on the morning announcements. In second grade we used construction paper crayons and decorated dots in warm and cool colors.
In second grade we are working on Monoprints. They are so much fun! We are using markers, crayons and water to create -what will be- these beautiful citiscapes reflecting on water. These photos show the beginning stages of the project....
I know you have never seen Giraffes sweeter than these! Saw something on Pinterest that sparked this idea too!
Everybody loved this project! We printed with matt board, different sized legos, bottle caps and cardboard and created these Really Cool Robots!
One of my favorite projects! We looked at still life paintings and learned about warm and cool colors. Then students created their own still life drawings by looking at fruit. I love this technique...of tracing the drawing in glue on black paper, letting it dry then coloring it with chalk. I'm pretty sure you have never seen such beautiful drawings!
I love this drawing lesson in overlapping and showing distance between objects. We started out by folding the elevator doors, locating the floor and placing the central character in the middle of the open elevator. When I introduce the lesson, I lay the ground rules....all feet on the same floor - don't let your people float!...and heads should be in the same general area. Then I begin to describe the "Mystery" characters in the elevators. I give them a few details to include and then the students add in their own ideas. This year we had a clown with his pet pig, an alien, a cowboy or cowgirl, their teacher, and a super hero. After those characters were placed in the elevator the students had to determine if they could add more people. When it was as crowded as we could get it, we closed the doors and the students drew themselves pushing the button to get on the elevator. I can't wait to see them all finished!
