I love this drawing lesson in overlapping and showing distance between objects. We started out by folding the elevator doors, locating the floor and placing the central character in the middle of the open elevator. When I introduce the lesson, I lay the ground rules....all feet on the same floor - don't let your people float!...and heads should be in the same general area. Then I begin to describe the "Mystery" characters in the elevators. I give them a few details to include and then the students add in their own ideas. This year we had a clown with his pet pig, an alien, a cowboy or cowgirl, their teacher, and a super hero. After those characters were placed in the elevator the students had to determine if they could add more people. When it was as crowded as we could get it, we closed the doors and the students drew themselves pushing the button to get on the elevator. I can't wait to see them all finished!
