We are not wasting any time here in the art room! Today we began drawing owls from observation. We will finish them in oil pastels on black paper!
Big hit with the third graders! It was a lot of fun to look at Korean artist Nam June Paik's robot series. Students were engaged and excited to make their own robots! This project takes a long time - but looks awesome in the end. We started by drawing the inside workings of the robot. I have some old computer parts that I put on each table for inspiration. We looked for geometric and organic shapes to draw. We used good coloring techniques with marker to complete that part. The next step was adding the body and head. We switched up our thinking and began cutting geometric and organic shapes out of construction paper to add detail. The results were GENIUS!
Third graders studied the life and work of Louise Nevelson. This is such a simple project but, they always turn out so cool. We used scissors, glue and copy paper.
Third graders picked a series of favorite numbers and a color scheme to complete this asignment. Jasper Johns was born in Augusta, Georgia and is most famous for his POP art paintings of everyday objects - like numbers.
I love printmaking! A collograph is a type of print where you cut and glue down a design using thick paper - when it's all dry you roll ink over it with a brayer and print it.
These are the best jungles ever! We studied the artist Henri Rousseau and used his methods of learning to draw and paint by looking at toy animals and making up plants that you might see in a jungle. They are just beautiful!
