Finally getting to use them!
Our Music Teacher was cleaning out and I snagged all his old music sheets.
Finally getting to use them!

We pulled out all the art supplies today and began creating a still life drawing. These drawings are on the cover of our sketch books. I love these!
I love these watercolor paintings in the style of artist Heather Brown. So much goes into drawing and creating a landscape. We use the following vocabulary words when we discuss landscapes...foreground, middle ground, background, depth, space, distance, overlapping, proportion. Artists create illusions of depth and space depending on how they place objects on the paper.
The next artist we are studying is Georges Seurat. His "Big Idea" was to approach art in a scientific manner. He developed a painting style called Pointillism. The technique being to paint two dots of color next to each other and step back to let your eyes do the mixing. In other words, to make the color purple, Seurat would paint a red dot next to a purple dot. 5th graders used netbooks to research the artist and his technique then we painted apples in the pointillism style.
