We watched the cutest little video about a taking care of your paint brush. You can check it out too! http://vimeo.com/6192408 ...It's called Sloppy Brush and it cracks me up every time! We learned how to hold a paint brush, the parts of a paintbrush and my favorite phrase when we paint..."NEVER LET YOUR BRUSH HAVE A BAD HAIR DAY!"
We are making our own sloppy brushes by using the lines we have been practicing. Check back later to see the finished project. In kindergarten we took an in depth look at Architecture and Architects and created these prints of buildings using found objects around the classroom. It was a lot of fun!
My Kindergarteners have just finished up these fun little landscape paintings. We were working on the element of Texture, so we used a q-tip to paint with.
Today we started these oil pastel resists. We studied the warm colors and began drawing trees with oil pastels. We need to add some more leaves and maybe a leaf pile to jump in!
In the end we will paint in the background with watercolor paint. I had to show them off even if it is a little early. This lesson was all about learning how the Primary colors make new colors called the Secondary colors. We also got some practice in drawing and cutting out circles. Later we added stems, grass and vines. I love the crazy teeth! (The background looks blue, but it's really purple.)
We started out the year by practicing lines and shapes which led us to Piet Mondrian. He liked 2 kinds of lines...horizontal and vertical. He liked 2 kinds of shapes...squares and rectangles. And he liked 3 colors...red, yellow, and blue. It was difficult getting those black lines on there! But, once we got them "straightened" out it all came together. I took a picture of the bulletin board I made which is actually displaying many works of art but, it looks like one giant Mondrian.

Kindergarten Gallery...
Kindergarteners are so much fun to teach! When they come in the room all their hands go up and they catch me up on all the lost teeth, vacations, illnesses and new toys that have happened since I last saw them.
Love it!
