Our second Museum featured Van Gogh - one of my favorite artists! His life and work is so fascinating and unique. My students were captivated by his short, choppy, brushstrokes that make each painting seem to vibrate. Starry Night was definately a big hit! When we ordered the large works of art to hang
in the room, Starry Night was almost 17 feet long. It was like walking into the painting. In this museum I wanted it to look as though we had taken a step back in time - into Vincent's life. I re-created the bedroom that he lived in and so famously painted in Arles~complete with his bed and his shirts hanging on pegs.
Over in the corner I created the bistro that he painted at night. Did you know that in order to capture the night time atmosphere of the cafe he had to put candles in his hat and light them, so he could see his canvas? In another area, there was an easel with the beginnings of a sunflower painting on it. Paint, brushes and a palette made it look like he had just been there painting. I really enjoyed this museum and I know the students did!
